What we test

Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is a critical test for evaluating thyroid function, which plays a vital role in regulating metabolism and energy levels. Hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland is underactive, can lead to symptoms of chronic fatigue, weight gain, and sluggishness. By measuring TSH levels, healthcare providers can determine if the thyroid is functioning properly. Elevated TSH levels indicate hypothyroidism, while low levels suggest hyperthyroidism. Addressing thyroid imbalances can significantly improve symptoms of fatigue and overall well-being.

Full Blood Count (FBC)

A Full Blood Count (FBC) is a comprehensive test that measures various components of the blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, haemoglobin, and platelets. This test is crucial for identifying conditions such as anaemia, infections, and other haematologic abnormalities that can contribute to chronic fatigue. Anaemia, characterised by low levels of red blood cells or haemoglobin, reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen, leading to persistent tiredness and weakness. Detecting and treating these conditions can help alleviate fatigue and improve energy levels.

Ferritin

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body and is a key indicator of iron status. Measuring ferritin levels helps assess iron stores and detect iron deficiency, which is a common cause of chronic fatigue. Even in the absence of anaemia, low ferritin levels can indicate depleted iron reserves, leading to symptoms of fatigue, weakness, and decreased cognitive function. By identifying and addressing iron deficiency, healthcare providers can help restore energy levels and improve overall health.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is essential for the production of red blood cells and the proper functioning of the nervous system. A deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to symptoms of chronic fatigue, neurological issues, and cognitive impairment. This test measures the levels of vitamin B12 in the blood to ensure they are within a healthy range. Detecting and treating a B12 deficiency can significantly reduce fatigue and enhance mental and physical performance.
