What we test

Iron Studies

Iron studies measure various markers in the blood to assess iron levels and diagnose conditions related to iron deficiency or overload.

Why we test this: Monitoring iron levels is crucial for detecting iron deficiency anaemia or hemochromatosis, especially in women who are at higher risk due to menstruation and pregnancy. Regular testing ensures optimal iron levels, supporting energy, immune function, and overall health.

Thyroid Function - TSH, FT4, FT3

Thyroid function tests are essential for maintaining optimal health by assessing the thyroid gland’s performance in regulating metabolism, energy levels, and overall hormonal balance.

  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH): Monitors the thyroid’s activity, helping to maintain balanced hormone production.
  • Free Thyroxine (FT4): Ensures the availability of this vital hormone for conversion into the more active FT3.
  • Free Triiodothyronine (FT3): Regulates essential metabolic processes, energy levels, and overall well-being.

Why we test this: Regular thyroid function testing can identify imbalances that might not yet present symptoms but could impact your energy, mood, and weight management. Early detection and proactive management can support a healthy lifestyle, prevent potential thyroid-related issues, and ensure sustained vitality.

Lipid Studies & HDL Cholesterol

Cholesterol and triglyceride tests measure the levels of fats in your blood, which are crucial indicators of cardiovascular health.

  • Cholesterol: A fatty substance essential for building cells but can be harmful in excess.
  • Triglycerides: A type of fat in the blood that stores excess energy from your diet.
  • High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL): Known as “good” cholesterol, helps remove other forms of cholesterol from your bloodstream.
  • Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL): Known as “bad” cholesterol, can build up in the walls of your arteries.

Why we test this: Monitoring these levels helps assess your risk for heart disease and stroke. Regular testing allows for proactive management through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system.

Liver Function (LFT)

Liver function tests (LFTs) are crucial for monitoring the liver’s health, a key organ in detoxification, metabolism, and nutrient storage.

  • Alanine Transaminase (ALT)
  • Aspartate Transaminase (AST)
  • Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)
  • Bilirubin
  • Albumin

Why we test this: Regular liver function testing helps ensure your liver is functioning optimally, even if you’re not experiencing symptoms. Monitoring liver function can help maintain a healthy liver, support detoxification processes, and contribute to overall wellness. By identifying potential issues early, you can make informed lifestyle choices to support liver health.

Kidney Function (EUC)

Kidney function tests (Electrolytes, Urea, and Creatinine – EUC) are essential for maintaining your kidneys’ role in filtering waste and balancing fluids and electrolytes.

  • Creatinine: Indicates how well your kidneys are filtering waste.
  • Urea: Reflects the kidneys’ efficiency in removing nitrogen waste.
  • Electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Bicarbonate): Maintain fluid and electrolyte balance.

Why we test this: Regular kidney function testing ensures your kidneys are functioning well, even if you’re not experiencing symptoms. Monitoring these markers can help you stay hydrated, maintain electrolyte balance, and support overall health. Early detection of imbalances allows for proactive management and lifestyle adjustments to maintain kidney health.

Full Blood Count (FBC)

Full Blood Count (FBC) is a comprehensive test that evaluates overall health and detects a variety of disorders, such as infections, anaemia, and other conditions.

  • Red Blood Cells (RBC): Carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body.
  • White Blood Cells (WBC): Fight infections.
  • Haemoglobin: The protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen.
  • Haematocrit: The proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component in your blood.
  • Platelets: Help with blood clotting.

Why we test this: Regular FBC testing provides a broad overview of your health, helping to detect early signs of many conditions. It supports overall wellness by ensuring your blood components are in balance, allowing for timely interventions if necessary.

Fasting Glucose

Fasting glucose tests measure the level of glucose in your blood after fasting, providing insights into how well your body manages blood sugar.

Why we test this: Monitoring fasting glucose levels helps detect early signs of diabetes and prediabetes. Regular testing supports proactive management of blood sugar levels through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes, promoting overall health and preventing the progression of diabetes.
