What we test

Iron Studies

Iron studies measure various markers in the blood to assess iron levels and diagnose conditions related to iron deficiency or overload.

For a nutritional profile health test, understanding your iron levels is crucial for overall well-being. Iron is essential for transporting oxygen in the blood, and maintaining optimal levels supports energy, cognitive function, and immune health. Regular testing can help identify iron deficiency anaemia, which can cause fatigue and weakness, or iron overload, which can lead to organ damage. Monitoring your iron status allows for dietary adjustments and supplementation to ensure balanced iron levels.

Zinc, Copper, Selenium

Zinc, Copper, and Selenium are essential minerals that play vital roles in immune function, protein synthesis, connective tissue formation, and antioxidant defence.

  • Zinc: Supports immune health, wound healing, and protein synthesis. Adequate zinc levels are crucial for maintaining a robust immune system and overall well-being.
  • Copper: Necessary for iron metabolism, energy production, and the formation of connective tissues. It supports cardiovascular health and prevents anaemia.
  • Selenium: Functions as an antioxidant, protecting cells from damage, and supports thyroid health. Adequate selenium levels contribute to immune function and reduce oxidative stress.

Monitoring these minerals helps ensure a balanced nutritional profile, supporting overall health and preventing deficiencies that can lead to various health issues.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is essential for bone health, immune function, and muscle performance.

In a nutritional profile health test, checking your vitamin D levels is important for maintaining strong bones, preventing fractures, and supporting immune health. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to bone disorders such as osteoporosis and rickets, as well as increased susceptibility to infections. Regular testing helps identify deficiencies, allowing for dietary adjustments or supplementation to maintain optimal health.

Vitamin B12 + Folate

Vitamin B12 and Folate are crucial for red blood cell production, neurological function, DNA synthesis, and overall cellular function.

  • Vitamin B12: Supports energy metabolism and neurological health. Deficiency can cause fatigue, weakness, and cognitive issues.
  • Folate: Necessary for DNA synthesis and red blood cell production. Adequate folate levels prevent anaemia and support overall cellular health.

Regular testing of these vitamins ensures that your nutritional profile supports energy levels, cognitive function, and overall health. Identifying deficiencies allows for dietary changes or supplementation to maintain adequate levels.

Lipid Studies & HDL Cholesterol

Cholesterol and triglyceride tests measure the levels of fats in your blood, which are crucial indicators of cardiovascular health.

  • Cholesterol: A fatty substance essential for building cells but can be harmful in excess.
  • Triglycerides: A type of fat in the blood that stores excess energy from your diet.
  • High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL): Known as “good” cholesterol, helps remove other forms of cholesterol from your bloodstream.
  • Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL): Known as “bad” cholesterol, can build up in the walls of your arteries.

Monitoring these levels helps assess your risk for heart disease and stroke. Regular testing allows for proactive management through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system, essential for overall health.

Full Blood Count (FBC)

Full Blood Count (FBC) is a comprehensive test that evaluates overall health and detects a variety of disorders, such as infections, anaemia, and other conditions.

  • Red Blood Cells (RBC): Carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body.
  • White Blood Cells (WBC): Fight infections.
  • Haemoglobin: The protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen.
  • Haematocrit: The proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component in your blood.
  • Platelets: Help with blood clotting.

Regular FBC testing provides a broad overview of your health, helping to detect early signs of many conditions. It supports overall wellness by ensuring your blood components are in balance, allowing for timely interventions if necessary.

Calcium + Magnesium

Calcium and Magnesium are vital minerals for bone health, muscle function, and overall metabolic processes.

  • Calcium: Essential for bone strength and preventing fractures. It also plays a role in muscle contractions and nerve signalling.
  • Magnesium: Involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including muscle and nerve function, energy production, and bone health.

Regular testing of calcium and magnesium levels helps ensure that your bones remain strong and your muscles function properly. Identifying deficiencies allows for dietary changes or supplementation to maintain optimal health and prevent conditions like osteoporosis and muscle cramps.

Homocysteine

Homocysteine: An important marker for cardiovascular health. Elevated levels are associated with an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and blood clots. It can also be an indicator of vitamin B6, B12, or folate deficiencies, which are essential for its metabolism.

Regular testing of homocysteine levels helps monitor your cardiovascular health and detect potential deficiencies. Identifying elevated homocysteine levels early allows for dietary changes or supplementation with B vitamins to reduce risks and maintain optimal heart health.
